Wanting to make some good advancement with your career? Now, that certainly is some best thought and intention to have indeed. But how could you do this if your career itself never allows you to leave the office even at the merest minutes? These masters degree in public health programs are then your best solution to this matter. This higher degree program allows you to make not just one, but two different advancements at the same time indeed: your making some best move with your educational degree, and with that you are making positive advancement with your career!

And how could these public health masters programs do that to you? Easy enough that is. These programs are not like the usual and or regular classes you used to attend in the old days. With the informational technology being applied to your teaching and learning processes, you no longer need to attend, in person, any class just to have any subject of your learning. Instead, you could change your learning place as to whatever locations you feel accommodative. And these could certainly include even your own bed room, living room, and or even your own kitchen!

These programs and many of other online human services degree programs allow the best flexibility to regulate your own learnings place and time. Indeed, you can simply arrange to have your classes at all afternoons, that is to say once you finish everything at the office, and or you can vary accordingly to suit with your own specific working hours. With this flexibility, you have now greater access to do best for both of two things you care for most right now: your own education and, by that, your own career. Thus, nothing could any longer hinder your best achievements to ensure that you are, indeed, making the best future for your own life.

Distance Education Programs

Distance education programs offer quality education through various means such as mail, satellite or other modern technological methods. An individual can join distance education programs either as a full-time or part-time student. Distance education programs were known as correspondence courses. There are also institutions offering distance education programs in theological subjects

The University of South Africa, established in 1946, was one of the oldest universities to offer distance education programs. Today, there are a number of private and public profit and non-profit institutions offering a large number of degree programs and certificate courses.

Earning degrees through distance education program is mainly beneficial for part-time workers, adult learners and full-time working students. There are online master's programs in challenging subjects such as Instructional Systems Technology and Language Education. With advancement in various technologies, distance-learning programs have been expanding rapidly. In distance education courses, the physical on-site presence of the students is required only at the time of examinations.

Today, one can find about 1,600 online degree programs, and over 2,300 career training programs. Distance education programs are available around the globe offering quality education and making a tremendous impact on people far and wide.

Distance education programs can be every bit as challenging as traditional, live-and-in-person education. And more and more often, employers are learning the value of a distance education degree and hiring accordingly. The digital world is being legitimized quickly and surely. No matter what program you choose, distance education can be a wonderful and rewarding means to attaining education and training for your future.

How to Find the Best Financial Education Program

If you're reading this then hopefully you are looking for a way to take control of your own finances by completing some form of financial education program. Perhaps you have sacked your financial adviser because he's done such a crap job over the last couple of years and you reckon you can do a better job. Or maybe you're just starting off and have decided to take responsibility for your financial future at an early stage.

If so, congratulations! The path to true wealth and prosperity lies in understanding your own finances and taking control of them. The path to failure is letting others, like financial advisers, family or friends, take control of your future by managing your investments or telling you what you should be doing. Worse still, is trying to do it on your own without understanding where you are going.

To benefit from the ability to control your own finances you need initial and ongoing financial education and that is best achieved through a properly structured financial education program. It's like learning to play golf. If you have never played before, then the best way to learn is to seek a professional who will show you how to achieve that low handicap through a perfect swing. Your ongoing performance on the golf course also relies on your ongoing practice and continued support from the golf pro or other professional sources. We all know what sort of golfer a person is likely to be who has never taken a golf lesson and relies on advice from their mates when things go from bad to worse with the swing.

Financial well being is no different to playing golf. You need to learn the basics through a comprehensive financial education program. The program also needs to teach you the right mindset for achieving prosperity. Financial freedom or success can have different definitions to many people but any financial education program needs to also teach you beyond the basics and principles of how to swing a golf club.

What about when your ball goes into a bunker? Did your golf pro teach you how to get out of trouble? We all know the world of finance and investment does not run smoothly all the time. For the untrained, making financial decisions can be like not knowing what club to use on the tee or any other part of the course - because they do not know what the outcome may be. To the trained golfer you know what club to use and will be successful more often than not when you play a shot from any position.

To find the best financial education program you need it to cover the fundamental basics like budgeting, cash flows, understanding all types of investments, investment structures and understanding company reports and research papers. It also needs to teach all the advanced strategies like minimising your taxes, estate planning issues, retirement planning strategies and protecting your assets. It also needs to teach you about prosperity, financial well being and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Probably the most important aspect, just as the golfer needs constant revision and practice to keep a low handicap, you will need constant reviews and ongoing access to professionals and mentors.

Achieving financial freedom is an ongoing pursuit of knowledge and education. If you don't do it right you'll end up in the trees or someone else's forest.

The Importance of Parent Participation in Individualized Education Program (IEP) Meetings

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires that parents be provided with an opportunity to participate in discussions about their child's education. The school district is required to work with the parent to find a mutually agreed upon time and location for the meeting. If the parent cannot find a way to meet with the team in person a conference call may be used. It is important to note that participation is an active process, not one that only entails listening and agreeing to what the school district employees have previously decided.

Many parents are unaware of the fact that the law states that the school district must attempt to find a meeting time that is mutually agreed upon. It has been my experience, that most parents receive a letter from the school district informing them of when an IEP meeting is scheduled with no prior discussion with the parent regarding their scheduling preferences. If the meeting is scheduled at a time that is not convenient for you, remember that you have the right to ask for the meeting to be changed so you can be in attendance.

If there is no way for the parent to attend the meeting in a person the meeting can be conducted via a phone conference. I want to highly discourage you from using this format of attendance, if at all possible. It has been my experience in meetings where the parent is not physically present that many sections of the IEP are skipped and that staff members who should be in attendance for the whole meeting, sign in, say their piece and then leave the room without the parent ever knowing. More importantly, I find that it is very hard for the parent to be an active participant when they are on the phone; and usually do not even have a copy of the draft document in their possession. The intent of the law is for the parent to actively provide pertinent information about their child, their child's abilities, their child's needs and their child's overall educational experience in IEP meetings.

I feel very strongly that for children with special needs to be successful in school there needs to be a collaborative approach to creating quality IEPs. Parents need to share their insights, struggles, triumphs, wishes and goals with the team of educators. Parents should not be sitting back as passive members of the team. Parents should not be solely listening to the educators, accepting the draft document as the final draft, signing their agreement to an educational plan that they do not whole-heartedly agree with. Parents need to know that it is their right, by law, to be an active participant in IEP meetings and to help design all aspects of the IEP. Anything that has been put into the draft IEP by school personnel can be amended or taken out and you may ask for other information to be added.

The Great Holiday Debate

July has arrived and with it holidays have begun for students, teachers and administrators. As always there is debate over whether the break is too long or not long enough. On one side are education reformers arguing for year round schooling in order to close learning gaps and maintain student achievement. On the other side parents and educators who suggest the break is needed in order to recover, re-energize and better prepare for the next school year.

In April, BC Education Minister George Abbott  proposed ammendments to the School Act that could lead to the elimination the standard September to June school calendar. These amendments to the School Act will provide school districts with additional tools to support personalized learning, the Education Minister said. These actions are consistent with the new BC Ed Plan that seeks to give students, families and educators more say on how, where when and what students will learn. The Plan clearly states "In many cases, the way classes and schools look might change. School calendars may change if boards of education see that as benefiting students".

Proponents of year round schooling suggest benefits include decreased costs and improved student achievement, especially for students of families that cannot avail themselves of organized summer activities. Experts cite "summer learning loss" as a major problem for North American students. Some suggest the current summer break model is inefficient with students spending their Septembers engaged in review of the previous year's learning. Other jurisdictions such as the UK, New Zealand and Australia use a year round trimester model with the same number of days in session but with shorter breaks interspersed throughout the year.

Opponents of year round schooling suggest the longer break is necessary for teachers and students to get some proper rest and recuperation time. Many teachers have traditionally used the summer break for professional development; attending courses at university to work on their masters degrees or to upgrade their qualifications.  In a research report dedicated to the subject of whether year round schooling improves student learning, the BCTF argues against altering the traditional schedule, suggesting that there is insufficient evidence to support the claims of those who support year round schooling and that where positive results have been found, the bias of the researchers or flaws in the methodology make those findings suspect.

Perhaps the greatest obstacle to year long study is tradition. Summer break has just always been the way things are done, and until there is compelling evidence that doing it differently would be better, institutional inertia is likely to continue.  If it was good enough for us, many parents believe, its good enough for our children too. Fear of change seems hardwired into the human psyche, and so long as there is insufficient evidence to show that year round is better, many will remain reluctant to change.

Regardless of whether the breaks are scattered through out the year or concentrated in one long stretch I know I always look forward to them. I'll be taking advantage of the current summer break to rest, read and recreate so postings to the blog may be fewer and further between. Here's hoping everyone else gets a break this summer too so that the fall finds us all ready to return to Education Matters.
