Finding Fresh Focus

Photography is one of my favorite hobbies. My wife and I have had the good fortune to travel to some pretty amazing places. Capturing memories in pictures allows us to fondly recall our adventures quickly and clearly. Any photographer can tell you that finding focus is key to a great picture. In education focus can be just as important to ensuring effective progress.

The modern world bombards everyone with information and distractions. On top of the demands of daily life and the expectations of our jobs, educators also face  self inflicted distractions from our technology and gadgets. Smartphones, ipads, ipods, and other devices have gained a huge foothold in our lives. Even worse is the compulsive, almost addictive attitude we have developed towards the applications such devices carry. The internet, Facebook, blogs and Twitter, improperly used can become black holes of wasted time. I have heard Twitter described by some people as being an invaluable source of ideas and information, on par with the most outstanding professional development. Maybe so, but even the most casual follower of Twitter quickly becomes aware of people and organizations  that seem to live to post, follow, tweet and retweet with such fierce determination that one wonders when they find time to do anything else. With so many demands and competitive mechanisms seeking to gain our attention, the ability to focus on what really matters has never been more important.

Psych Central has a great webpage outlining tips to help people enhance their focus. It includes common sense advice like establishing gadget free zones, taking breaks to get outside, maintaining to do lists and limiting the number of applications open on your computer at any one time. Joseph Cardillo, in his book  "Can I Have Your Attention?: How to Think Fast, Find Your Focus, and Sharpen Your Concentration" advocates asking a series of questions to train your brain to better focus. Such questions include:
  • Where am I at the moment?
  • What do I want to gain from this situation?
  • What should I gain from this situation?
  • What have I done in similar situations in the past?
  • Do I want to change that?
  • If so, how?
  • What do others expect to gain from the situation?
  • What attention does my environment demand from the situation?
  • What information that is entering my attention should be activated?
  • What information should be restrained?
Eastern Michigan University Associate  professor Brian Bruya similarly talks of collecting and shedding information cues in order to determine and deal with important tasks with greater ease and responsiveness. Bruya suggests its most important to concentrate on what really matters. Excluding extraneous stimuli can allow a person to deal with the task at hand more effectively and with greater ease.

The human brain can process an amazing amount of information. Psych Central reports that psychologists estimate we can process up to 40 bits of information simultaneously. Finding focus, however, is not about how much information we can take in all at once, but more about what we zero in upon to the exclusion of the all the other noise. Being able to focus on a few key tasks, complete them and do them well is really a much more valuable 21st Century skill than being overly wired in, over-connected, and over stimulated.Using the tools available can be great but it is also important to maintain focus on what really matters!

Wooden Windows, Plastic Windows And Their Environmental Significance

By Giles Perry

Environmentalists and also regular people concerned about the ways in which humans interact with the world around them, there has been a question of growing concern: Wooden windows or plastic windows which one is better for the environment? The reason this is so is because housing needs have been intensifying as populations around the globe continue to grow. More housing is needed, of course, meaning more of everything related to housing, including plastics and woods, is also needed.

In looking at windows, it's important to understand that the issue with them usually never involves the glass contained within, because that material is almost completely organic in nature. Made from sand and its constituents, it poses little threat to the environment, quite frankly. However, depending on how they're manufactured, woods and plastics can present more of a burden though, it has to be said, wood is generally less so.

When it comes to plastic, no matter how it's used or made, there are a number chemicals used to manufacture polyvinyl chloride (plastics) that are toxic and not likely to be made less so in the coming years. Plastic also is generally non-biodegradable, at least as it's currently made on a large scale. Most such plastic windows, if they're not recycled, can last in a landfill for literally thousands of years.

Wooden windows, on the other hand -- especially when they're made from organically-grown and then processed wood -- can be significantly less burdensome to the environment. The cost of making a wooden window in an eco-friendly manner can be higher when compared to the cost of manufacturing a plastic window, but the benefit to the environment can be quite significant. The use of natural lacquers and preservative shellacs also helps to make wood attractive.

Given all of the considerations that need to be looked at when it comes to wood versus plastic when it comes to just which would be better for the environment, the issue of how easy each is to recycle is probably the most important issue to examine. When disposed of properly, plastic can be recycled as easily as wood, but it isn't biodegradable and the chemicals used to make it are toxic to the environment. Wood degrades, and if it's made organically, it isn't dangerous to the environment, either.

So, then; answering the question (wooden windows or plastic windows which one is better for the environment?) seems easy enough to address. It would seem that, at present, there's really no way to ensure that plastics and the chemicals they're made with can be made less harmful to the environment than wooden windows. That material degrades easily enough and it can be made in a safer manner and then recycled easily, as well, it must be said.

Sleep and School Performance

Research-based best practices.  This phrase gets thrown around the education world enough to stimulate an intensity of eye-rolling that rivals the groaning elicited by the ubiquitously annoying safety issue.  Play the Research-Based Best Practices card, though, and you trump all othersTrick, Hand, Match.
The eye-rolling ensues because so often research can generate divergent claims and policies.  Witness the long-running phonics vs. whole language debate.  Each side has its logic and evidence to support their curricular preferences, so education policy can end up looking like it actually follows personal tastes or gut feeling.  In such an environment, best practice comes to rely on and reflect subjective evaluations, at least to some degree.
But sometimes all the logic and evidence overwhelmingly point in the same direction, and research does enable us to discern a best practice approach.  The importance of sleep is one such issue.
The science is clear.  Our brains need sleep, and they need it desperately.  While we sleep, our brains busily reconfigure and stabilize the learning we did the previous day, as well as process our emotional experiences.  Moreover, sleep deficitsone study found a detrimental effect from as little as an hour lost each night for only a few nights in a rowweaken attention and diminish performance while we are awake.
Adequate sleep is important for all of us, but the situation is even more complicated for teenagers, whose circadian system--or biorhythmic clock--differs from everyone else.  When darkness falls, our bodies release melatonin, which starts the winding down process that ends in sleep.  Teenagers operate on a delay, though.  Their melatonin-induced slow down lags an extra 90 minutes after the dark, and after the rest of us.  Their morning wake up is equally delayed.  In short, teenagers are more than hour later than the rest of us.
Turns out this circadian shift has substantial consequences for teenagers educational performance.  Several school districts around the country have demonstrated this by moving high school start times later in the morning, and thereby dramatically increasing student success.
The Edina, MN school district moved their high school start one hour later, and saw remarkable results in just one year.  The top tenth of the student body showed the biggest effect, with one year gains in SAT performance of 56 points in math and 156 points in verbal scores.
Another study of 7000 Minnesota high schoolers found that A students got an average of 15 minutes more sleep every night than B students, who in turn slumbered 15 minutes more than C students.  15 extra minutes of sleep, in other words, can have salutary effects on student learning and performance.

The benefits of late start go beyond academics to include safety and mental health, too.  In Lexington, KY, a later start cut teen fall asleep  auto accidents by 25%, the biggest drop in Kentucky.  As for mental health, some researchers and doctors suspect that the lack of sleep at least partly explains some of the teenage moodiness, depression and even ADHD.  These symptoms and conditions are similar to those arising from sleep deprivation.

It seems clear, then.  Research indicates that the best practice for scheduling high schoolers lives is to start school later in the day.  And the sleep research is clear on another piece of good news.  Findings show that when students are better rested, a shorter school day serves their educational needs perfectly adequately.  This means high school could start an hour later, and end only 20 or 30 minutes later, impinging little on the sacrosanct sports and extra-curricular afternoon schedules.

Later high school start times is a research-based best practice the Tacoma School District should consider.  It would likely generate far greater benefit for student performance (not to mention health and wellness) than political abstractions about the costs and benefits of becoming a charter school authorizer.  Yes, we would have to make some adjustments to bus schedules, but it would be worth it.

Tacoma revels in its status as innovator.  Lets be truly innovative, and try later high school start times...its a no-brainer.

The Significance With Seismic Drilling Products

By Lee Lawrence

There are many means for which resources can be acquired, found and identified. Through these, more possibilities get created. This allows for more optimization, innovation and sustainability of resources. A lot of technologies get created from it, for it and through it. Several industries have allocated various resources to discover such things as these and they use various techniques, methods and tools for accomplishing that. Seismic drilling products being among those things.

Seismic surveys are utilized for investigating subterranean structures that are found on Earth. They are mainly used for exploring oil and gas. The principle being employed for these surveys are that of reflective seismology. This is used to acquire and interpret data leading to an estimate of the Earth's composition.

Reflective seismology is that method for exploration that makes use of principles of seismology for estimating properties of the subsurface of the Earth from reflected waves. The waves are of energy which travel through the layers of the Earth. They are a result of explosions, earthquakes or volcanoes imparting low frequency acoustic energy. They are recorded by a hydrophone, seismometer or accelerometer.

This method requires some controlled source of energy. This makes use of devices as simple as dynamites to those as sophisticated as air guns. They can provide single pulses as well as continuous sweeps of energy. The waves travel through mediums then they reflect and refract then are recorded by the receivers.

Exploration has transition zone, marine and land as primary environments. Land will cover all types of terrain. Marine include deep and shallow waters. The transition zone would be where the sea meets the land. Examples include swamps, surf zones and coral reefs. Each brings logistical problems for its own.

Different tools will have to be used to accomplish exploration. Certain manufacturers specialize with their production. With them, reliable and quality tools are produced. These are useful for exploration to yield data that is reliable by efficiently providing the sources. They will allow drilling to be ran smoothly.

Solutions provided will help acquire appropriate components to an operation. Making sure that they are appropriate to the needs for a given operation is crucial. This will enable greatly reliable results with efficient processing. These help accomplish jobs doing so much good for mankind.

Most of the things man use to survive day to day require the use of fuel. This makes it really important to have a source to provide for this. Through hydrocarbon exploration, people are provided with power sources to sustain much in life. From cooking food to running cars, fuel power lives. The technologies, techniques and tools to acquire it has so much significance for people.

Global energy sources include gas and oils. Without advancements with seismic drilling products, its acquisition may be made even more of a challenge to the industry and be made to be more costly as well. Advances for many fields, particularly on tools can really be beneficial to many people existing at an age of so much use for machinery.

Set aside a room or a part of your house to college in. Some youngsters have a tricky time changing their mindset from home, where they relax to school where they have to focus and work. If you make a schooling area in your home, your kid will know that when he is in that area it's time to learn. Ensure this particular part of your house is delegated as school only so you and your child are serious when you're in this room.

When selecting your homeschooling program, consider the ultimate goal of the education you are providing your kid. If you intend to reintegrate them into a regular college, then your curriculum should shadow the curriculum of that school. From a different perspective, if you intend to home train them through highschool then you want to make sure that they are learning everything they need to get their GED or perhaps to perform well on important pre-college exams like the SATs or ACTs.

It is very important that your kid realizes that simply because they are getting schooled at home does not mean they can appear and disappear as they please. There are particular things you need to do to make them realize this. As an example, teaching them in the sitting room in front of the Television isn't likely likely to help them take the work seriously. Find a designated, quiet area in your house to teach them.

Don't be afraid to advance your child's learning if they are ready to advance to higher order talents. You may be surprised by how little time is required to complete each day's work, so be at liberty to go further if your kid is interested in doing so. Make flashcards for every subject that you homeschool your youngster in. That way, they have something to study with when you are not personally available. It can help them learn while traveling in a vehicle. Flashcards also make an excellent lesson plan or activity if your other half has to do the homeschooling for you one day.

When you have educated yourself on the fundamentals of homeschooling, you can judge whether this is something you would like to try. Many kids thrive when they're taught at home, while others do better in school. Consider your children and their learning styles before you make a last call about their education.

How State of Residence Shapes College Affordability and Illinois MAP Grants

Historically, state need-based aid has been the largest area of state investment in student financial aid. However, state need-based grant aid is not evenly distributed across the US states. Some states, like South Dakota, invested less than $1 million in 2010-11 in need-based undergraduate grant aid. Other states, like Illinois, invested more than $400 million in need-based undergraduate grant aid in 2010-11 (NASSGAP 2010-11). Figure 1 shows that just nine states provide 72.6% of all need-based undergraduate grant aid in the US. The other 41 states collective effort amounts to only 27.4% of the total effort made by states in this area. Given this uneven distribution of state need-based grant aid across the country, students prospects for college are largely shaped by where they live. Low income students in the nine states that provide 72.6% of all need-based undergraduate grant aid have better prospects of being able to make college affordable than do their low income peers in other states.
Even students in the nine largest need-based aid states are seeing erosions in state investment in need-based aid. For example, Illinois offers 6.3% of the total nationwide state investment in need-based grant aid. In 2010-11, Illinois awarded $404.513 million in need-based aid, which represents 98% of the state total investment in student aid. The primary undergraduate need-based grant aid program in Illinois is called the Monetary Award Program (MAP), which is administered by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC). MAP can be used at any approved Illinois college by Illinois residents. The grant award season begins in January, when students are first able to apply for MAP by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and awards vary depending on a students financial circumstance, the cost of tuition at a students school, and the maximum award allowed in that year. In 2011-12, the effective maximum MAP award amount was $4,720. Awards are processed until the funds are exhausted, leaving some students who qualify for MAP unable to receive a grant if the funds are depleted before their FAFSA is complete. ISAC reports the number of eligible recipients with suspended awards each year. Table 1 shows the maximum (or effective maximum, which includes rescissions) MAP award, the total number of students in Illinois eligible for MAP, and the number and percent of eligible students who did not receive a MAP award. In 2000-01, all of the 197,889 students who were eligible for MAP received an award. In the 2011-12 award year, 369,674 students were eligible for MAP, which left 145,365 eligible students, or 39%, without awards. The suspension date for the 2011-12 MAP grant was April 8, 2011.
Because MAP is awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis, not all eligible students have equal odds of being denied an award. This is a particular hardship for students who decide to enroll in community colleges close to the start of the fall semester, or students who otherwise are not informed about the early suspension date for the program.
However, prior research has shown that receipt of MAP can affect postsecondary outcomes. Feeney and Heroff (2010) examine the relationship between the MAP grant and college persistence and enrollment for first-year students in Illinois who completed the 2003-2004 FAFSA and qualified for MAP. Low-income students who receive MAP are significantly more likely to enroll in college and more likely to enroll in a 4-year college, compared to non-recipients. The amount of the MAP award also impacts student enrollment and persistence.
At the end of December a state-wide task force on MAP released a report offering recommendations on the program.  Overall, the commission took a stand by not recommending many changes to the MAP program.  Instead, the commission restated a commitment to need-based aid through the MAP program.  Even though Illinois has been a historically strong need-based aid state, this recommitment to need-based aid is needed to prevent further erosion in support for low-income students. I hope the work of the MAP commission will inspire higher education institutions and the General Assembly to work towards reaffirming Illinois leadership in providing postsecondary opportunities for low income students.

Benefits Of A 2 Drum Spill Pallet

By Ann Jordan

In every sector, the aspect of taking precaution and care to prevent any form of accidents is a key issue. Small accidents in any of the sectors could cost a firm or an industry a great deal of time and money. Take for instance the road sector, the vehicles are installed with safety precaution gadgets like speed governors and safety belts. The roads are also constructed in a way to prevent accidents and there are explicit road signs to serve the same purpose. In such cases using 2 drum spill pallet is important.

Taking such preventive measures is not as easy in some sectors as it is in other sectors. Take an example of the sector that deals with organic substances. The substances come in different colors. In that I mean they display and behave differently when being handles. The precautions you apply to a given organic substance are not the same that you apply to another apply to another.

To prevent accidents and spillage of substances during transportation, special containers were introduced. The container that has the chemical in one is placed inside it. In case there is a spill, the chemical pours into it. These keep the chemicals in good shape and prevent them from getting damaged.

This method prevents any contact with these by the people handling them. After the spill, the substances can be removed from these containers through an outlet. These containers are equipped with an outlet well as a lid that ensures that these contents are not contaminated. The lid is very tight to enable it carry its functions properly.

When they are safely tucked inside it, the box is then closed tightly through the use of a lid that can also be removed in such cases where they need to be cleaned or it needs to be removed. This implies that it must comfortably handle it plus the chemicals that they contain in terms of weight. This is one important aspect that one should consider when choosing the special box to use for transportation.

Their choice must take into account the fact that different chemicals come with different properties. This implies that the container of choice should be able to handle a spillage from the different types of chemicals that you transport. It should be resistant to the effect of these different chemicals otherwise; it would be hazardous to use a container that reacts with some chemicals.

The volume off the container in which the content is stored is supposed to fit inside the safety container. This is a major requirement and should not be taken for granted. In terms of the length, breadth and the height. The container is also better of closed at the top because lacking it would be quite hazardous. All in all, when moving it from one place to another, you ought to ensure that the contents best fit.

The person should also consider the cost side of it. Different kinds of these containers come in different costs. The person should choose a container that is made of a good material and of correct sizes but it should also at the best cost. All in all, the use of 2 drum spill pallet is the best way to prevent all forms of accidents.

Other than typical scholarships grants and various other work-study programs, they provide leadership instruction with ROTC which will also assist you to cover your expenses in the school.

In the campus of San Jose State University, there's a great deal of activities to do if you wish to have fun with your mates. Student Union is a place where a lot of the students hang around. There's Subway, Jamba Juice, arcades as well as bowling alleys there. Greek Week, Underwear Run, and underwater hockey as several of the most bizarre and fascinating events that make this university remarkable. They also have a library that has 8 huge levels! Picture all the books you can actually read!

Past the campus grounds, San Jose is a big metropolis which includes great views of the area and destination places for just about anyone. If you grew up in San Jose, you'll understand that just how easy it really is to stay there, and more especially, study there. Otherwise, the numerous enjoyable things to do there will certainly keep you active althroughout the entire year. Go bowling at the Sharks, catch the most recent movies, take a trip to the Museum of Art, test various cuisines or perhaps go to a show. Students even get to ride the buse for free with the Eco pass that you could get for studying at the university.

San Jose State University is obviously one of the most note-worthy CSU branches there is, if not in the whole entire country. After all, it even has its very own Quidditch Club. What more can you ask for?

Choosing Happiness

This post finds me writing from the mid point of Spring Break. By now hopefully most people have had a week to unwind and relax. With still another week of break to look forward to, I suppose the happiness level of most staff and students should be relatively high. But how will that happiness shift as next week slides by, and a return to education matters looms closer?

Its a popular social meme to dislike work. Aside from Disney's Seven Dwarfs, I've rarely encountered images of people happily setting off for their days work. Instead, its common to hear about dealing with the daily grind and the drudgery of doing mindless tasks for insufficient pay. This image does not improve for students either. Commercial media commonly depicts school as a place of mind numbing boredom, or as a scary and threatening environment built to deprive children of all hope or happiness. Society has created a myth that people have a right to be happy all the time and things that deprive us of our leisure cannot possibly make us happy.

Happiness is getting a lot of attention these days. Author Gretchen Rubin's Happiness Project has spawned a website and a series of best selling books. Google happiness and you'll get literally thousands of hits. Many of these sites extol the virtues of happiness and promote the position that people have a right to be happy -the implication being that things that interfere with or get in the way happiness are bad and should be avoided.

I would suggest  that rather than being a right, happiness is actually more of a choice. When people buy into the myth that happiness is their right, they immediately set themselves up for disappointment. In her book The Myths of Happiness author Sonja Lyubomirsky identifies how the IF factor (I'd be happy IF I only had more money, the right job, better friends etc) actually works to keep people from attaining real happiness.  The truth is we all control our own happiness through the choices we make. Happiness is not found in what we get, it is determined by what we do with it. Happiness is an attitude and is most determined by how we choose to respond to adversity.

A recent post by Mariana Ashley at  The Change Blog states "We always have the choice to be happy. Learning to change our attitude is frustrating, but worth it in the end. When we choose to be happy, things tend to work in our favor, and luck seems to be on our side; and even if things dont happen the way you want them to, if you choose to be happy, you can accept situations for what they are and make the most of life, no matter the hand it deals you."

A positive attitude, regardless of circumstances,  builds resilience, and that's a real 21st century skill. So here's hoping that everyone makes the most of the rest of spring break. May it put you in a positive and resilient frame of mind, so when next week comes around we can all choose to happily  return to education matters.

Spill Containment Pallets Help Protect The Environment From Hazardous Materials

By Christi Larsen

Environmental contamination due to mishandling of toxic materials is a matter of concern worldwide. Oil spills in particular have caused much damage. In order to prevent further incidents involving toxic spills, various regulations have been introduced by environmental protection agencies. Spill containment pallets are one of the ways used to prevent these problems.

The prevention of these spills is obviously better than trying to deal with the consequences. Spillage of hazardous materials can cause extensive damage to people, animals, buildings, farms and whole ecosystems. The response may require not only complete shutdown of the factory and evacuation of workers but the calling in of specialized teams for cleanup. This can become a very costly exercise. Add to this the extensive reports that need to be submitted and the fines for non-compliance and it makes sense to comply with the regulations in the first place.

There are regulations relating to the size of these secondary containment products which need to be used. The sump must have a capacity of twenty five percent of the total stored, or one hundred and ten percent of the largest container, whichever is the most. There are many different sizes of these products available, from those which contain only one drum to larger ones which can contain as many as eight.

The materials used for manufacture of these products need to be durable, lightweight and strong. They have to be able to withstand the corrosive nature of chemicals where necessary. They must be able to be maneuvered without difficulty. They need to bear heavy weights. The most suitable materials are polyurethanes as well as high density polyethylene.

There are basically five different styles which have been approved for use: modular platforms, covered pallets, bins or trays, those which can be stacked and those which are portable. Each style is appropriate for different circumstances. For example, stacking may be required when a large amount of storage is needed in a limited space. An enclosed product with a cover should be used if it is to be located outside and exposed to the elements. A modular platform which allows for expansion helps when storing many barrels. Portable products are compact when stored but ready for use when needed.

Cleaning of these secondary containment products is facilitated by sturdy grates which are removable. When these grates are removed, the sump can be easily inspected and cleaned. Spillage may be added back into containers for re-use in some cases to save costs.

Protection of workers is enhanced by using these products. It reduces their exposure to deadly chemicals. The factory floor remains dry and workers are not in danger of slipping on spills and injuring themselves.

For safety in working environments these spill containment pallets are indispensable. They are mostly used in large factories but they actually need to be used by all of those who are involved with hazardous materials, even if the quantities are relatively small. The consequences of leakage are far too damaging to ignore. Taking the necessary precautions significantly reduces the risks related to improper handling of these toxic materials.

Important Facts Regarding Translation Services For Business Owners

By Jill Faulkner

It is not that difficult to understand the importance of translation services USA in the world of business. If the language that is used is not correct, then the message that needs to be sent across to its target audience is also expected to be incorrect. It is important for a local company to be understood by the rest of the world as an effect of globalization. Learn more reasons on why this service is popular these days.

Starting off with the simple definition of the term translation, it is the process of translating some words or phrases from one language into another. As of today, this process is being used in a lot of aspects of communication. These services consist of translation of books or other reading materials into another language, communication between clients, manuscript and product label translation.

The main purpose of a company in getting this kind of service is to communicate effectively with clients from other parts of the world so that they can compete with their international competitors. The documents that have to be translated may come in different types. They may include project and medical reports, user manuals or any kind of paperwork.

However, these days wherein people rely on the internet for information, web content are also being translated. With all the tasks at hand, the service provider must always meet the demands of their clients in the business industry. Moreover, it is their duty to hire people who can handle the job well.

As they translate the documents, there is a need for them not to change the original meaning of its content. Translators must also have proper training in many dialects and editing. They are also expected to become good interpreters.

On the other hand, globalization plays a key role in the rising popularity of these services. Business offices now feel the need to expand their horizons by reaching to new customers. Several communication barriers can be easily broken down with the aid of the services. In that way, a company can easily focus more on marketing their products to a larger audience.

As a result, the company can have the chance to grab the attention of more potential clients resulting to possible higher profits. Aside from that, the company can also save a lot of time and effort on their part. That is if they secure on translating their documents by a certified and trusted service provider.

Selecting the provider is a crucial step in expanding a business. This is because there are providers that offer low quality service that can be the reason to a failed communication attempt. Mistranslations may exist if a company will settle for less.

One has to make sure that the translation services USA provider that they will choose has a team of expert translators. They must know how to convey the exact message that companies want to send across. If you are an owner of a business whether it is small or big, there is a need for you to choose the best provider in your area although you may have to expect to pay more.

The Importance Of Using IBC Spill Pallets

By Jill Faulkner

These days, many kinds of pollution has been destroying the environment. People have been creating ways on how these things can be prevented. A classic example of this destruction of the environment is the spilling of oils and other toxic wastes into the ocean. As a way to get rid from the latter to happen, experts were able to create what they call as ibc spill pallets.

Intermediate bulk container is also another name that is given to represent IBC. One of its role is to store bulk fluid as well as other dry materials. It also enables the same things mentioned to be transported to another destination. They are mostly made using plastic, stainless steel and various composites. They also come with some cages as well as bases that were added intentionally for them to be lifted with ease by lifting machines such as packet jacks as well as fork lifts.

Foldable containers that also be collapsed of the same type were also developed so that compact storage can be made possible. These containers are also capable of bringing loose components ranging from liquid soaps, powdered goods, and other kinds of fluid. For those who do not know, this typical container has also been useful in carrying toxic waste from a certain point into another point.

Furthermore, they can also be beneficial to the companies that own some things that need to be transported. This is because the cost for the transit is low compared to other ways of transportation and also because of the efficient utilization of space or storage. Lastly, they are also compatible with several types of filling and discharge systems, which makes them easier to handle.

Given their size, IBC has long been a perfect substitute for the typical containers used for shipping goods that are both wet and dry. The reason behind this is their ability to carry many things due to a more compact storage. Meanwhile, there is also another type that can also be helpful in transporting goods.

It is called as a shipping container, which is insulated. It is designed to perform well in maintaining the preservation of materials that are sensitive to high temperatures. In this case, these materials that are inside the container may also come with ice packs or anything other material that controls the low levels of temperature.

The common companies that use this type of storage method consist of scientific suppliers, companies offering food. Other business structures that have products that have to be kept in cold temperatures are also included. Specific products that have to be stored in these containers include vaccines, medications, food, chemical and scientific supplies.

This container can be recycled, which makes it better than the rest. While other can be destroyed easily after they are used once, this type remains strong. It is hard for them to have cracks as well as stains. They are also perfect for storage because they have secure locks. With this method, companies will be able to avoid further losses of their products.

Spills can be prevented using the containers stated above. The world is going to prevent further deterioration with the assistance of ibc spill pallets. It must be compulsory for companies to start using them now.

Review of Curriculum Reviews

Once again it is that time of year when homeschooling parents begin to contemplate curricula choices for next year. What shall I use? Will it be a good fit for my child? After using said curricula, will my child be a genius who will now naturally be able to know the meaning of life and the nature of the universe as it unfolds around him?  No pressure.  Clearly only reasonable expectations for the affects of using a curriculum, right?  NOT!

Obviously a parent cannot know everything there is to know about the different curricula choices unless they are happily delusional.  So we all naturally begin to turn to reviews.  They can be tremendously helpful, but only if they are written in a helpful manner.

Most homeschooling parents accept the premise that one size does not fit all.  Children are not interchangeable.  Cookie cutter education will not necessarily be the best thing for their child.  Hence the seductive beauty of homeschooling.  We can hand-tailor our instruction to the unique needs of each child.  We have the blessing of one-on-one instruction (at times when the other children are not demanding attention and creating "Calgon Take Me Away" Moments).  As parents we have the ability, privilege and obligation of searching for what will suit our individual child's needs best.

So to all those out there writing reviews, please remember to give detailed PROS and CONS.  To say that a particular program is "good," "great" or even "the best" is distinctly not helpful.  What about it is "good"?  What SPECIFICALLY makes it a "the best."  Why is the program "terrible"?

Explicit information detailing why something was successful or a veritable disaster for your family can be tremendously helpful to the next family. I have gleaned more useful information from negative reviews of curriculum than from the positive ones.  Negative review people tend to rant about what specifically they did not like.  This is the kind of information that may reveal whether or not the product is the perfect fit for your child.

My most successful purchases have resulted from seeking out negative reviews of a product so that I can actually get a feel for whether or not it will "work" for our family.  Beginning the process of sorting through the myriad of curricula options tends to make one feel trepidation or perhaps even hysteria.  So, I beg those writing reviews, please be detailed in your praises and complaints.  Give us the information that we will need to make informed decisions for our families.  But if all else fails and we purchase a program that is an "unmitigated disaster," then one of the ultimate gifts of homeschooling kicks in.  We have the freedom to throw it away and try something new.

Looking For Green Energy Information? Start Here!

By Curtis Tangredi

On several occasions, you have thought about looking into green energy, but something about it seems too complicated and keeps you from actually doing it. The information that is presented in this article is just the information you need to help your home reap the benefits from green energy. So read on and see what changes you can make.

Recycling is one of the easiest tasks that can make a greener home. Some towns automatically include costs for recycling in their garbage collection, so look into this! If not, certain states including Michigan will pay consumers to return bottles after use. Recycling is one of the best ways to cut energy costs!

In order to save extra energy around the house, be sure to set your electronics to a power-saving mode when not using them. A power-saving mode will reduce the amount of energy spent by the device. This way, you can save energy and cut down the cost of the electric bill.

A great way to help save energy and live a greener lifestyle is to purchase energy efficient appliances. Make sure that any new appliances you buy have the Energy-Star rating as this not only saves a great deal of energy, but it can also lower your power bill significantly.

Green energy is great to have in any home and can save you a lot on electrical bills that can seem to add up over months. Another great thing about investing into green technology is that you can use it as a tax write off which can help you get more back come tax season.

If you are planning on switching to green energy, it can seem too discouraging to jump in and do it all at once. While an entire home and land can be overwhelming, try narrowing your efforts to one room at a time. A good first step is a bedroom, where you can use solar power for just a reading lamp and a radio or alarm clock. Then work up from there!

When you are not using your appliances, you should make sure they are turned off. If you are in a room, make sure that the light is turned off when you exit. If you leave your home, ensure the TV is turned off. These little things can greatly decrease the amount of energy you use in your home, which will leave you with some extra cash in your pocket at the end of the month.

It is easy to live green, and still enjoy technology just by making small changes. Make your laptop more energy efficient simply by changing your wall paper. Using a dark or black wall paper, and screen saver uses less energy. This small amount of energy saved will add up over time, especially if you have more than one computer in the home.

So as you can see, it really is not that hard to make changes in your life that will help you take advantage of green energy. So, take that first step and see what even a small change can make. In return, you will be sure to make the world a better place for all.

Embrace the Break

As I look outside at the still all too present piles of snow, it seems hard to believe that for the next two weeks our school district will be on Spring Break! Hopefully, many staff and families will be able to take full advantage of the holiday to rest and recharge in preparation for academic year's final quarter.

The tradition and need for a spring break are both long standing and self evident. Its a long haul from Christmas to Easter through some of the darkest and dreariest weather of the year. This year BC added a Family Day holiday to the school calendar in February, but one long weekend doesn't really compare to the luster and allure of two full weeks away from the regular routine.

While the holiday may have had its roots in the agrarian calendar and connections to the observance of Easter, there is solid and scientific evidence that the holiday break has a positive impact on physical and mental health. The insurance company Standard Life lists the benefits as stress relief, improved mental cognition, improved physical health, strengthened family ties and all round greater enjoyment of life.  National Public Radio (NPR) reports that holiday breaks give everyone time to restore balance to the lives, improve their health and sleep patterns and decrease their stress levels.

Most vacation studies focus on the benefits breaks afford to adult workers.  Some critics suggest that frequent school breaks may have an adverse affect on student learning. The spectre of summer learning loss is frequently raised in support of shorter holidays or year round schooling agendas. However, even those that argue over the appropriate length of holidays agree that well placed holiday breaks help to reduce student stress and burn out, have a positive impact on student mental and physical health and generally improve the mood and outlook of most students.

So here's hoping that this year, where ever we are and what ever the weather brings, we all get to enjoy a great spring break.  Whether our breaks involve travel, rest or just a break from the regular routine, let's take full advantage so that we can return to education matters re-energized and ready for whatever challenges lie ahead.
